Clade Song 16

Corvids of Osaka

“Although the birds are being displaced,
they still embody the city’s charm." - R. Manandhar

I hear crows
and ravens calling to each other
through grey skies of
unbelonging, ravens
with their scruffy necks
and crows with smooth ones,

they sound so human,
deadpan.

Haw haw.

and off they fly
among humming electricity
wires and buildings,
on the wings
of welcome, belonging
and looking out for
each other.

Their dark shapes
ride gliding currents of air:
an elegant foil
to pale pink cherry blossoms
carried on the wind.
